May has been a season of growth, renewal, and meaningful impact at TIS. As we look back on the past month, we are reminded once again that none of this work happens alone. Your support continues to create stability, hope, and opportunity for our neighbors in need, and we cannot thank YOU enough for standing beside us.

Letter from the Executive Director
In her May letter, Julie shares an honest reflection on the growing need for shelter and housing support across our community, the challenges TIS is facing, and the vital role Team TIS plays in helping neighbors rebuild their lives.
It’s been a month of growth at Talbot Interfaith Shelter – from new jobs to new housing, our guests are taking meaningful steps towards sustainability all because of YOU. Congratulations to two of our guests who secured employment milestones this month! In our transitional apartments, Jasmine started a new position as a Case Manager with T.I.M.E., while Berdadrian, a guest at Evelyn’s Place, earned a promotion at his workplace.
Housing progress continues as well! One guest at Evelyn’s Place moved into a transitional apartment, and Maureen celebrated a major milestone by moving into her own housing. In Easton’s Promise, with the help of Case Manager Sadé, another guest obtained a housing voucher and began the search for affordable, permanent housing.
We are also proud to celebrate three high school seniors in our transitional apartments who will be graduating soon!
Guests are continuing their work through our Financial Literacy Class, gaining valuable skills in money management and building financial independence. Team TIS also expanded its community impact this month as Case Manager Sadé partnered with Chesapeake Forum to present Budgeting on a Shoestring Budget at the library.
Your support continues to create stability, hope, and opportunity for our neighbors in need, and we cannot thank YOU enough for standing beside us.
This month, Sheila had a phone-call interview with Kimberly, a mother of three who moved from our shelter to a three bedroom apartment in December. Kimberly shares her adoration for TIS and the support she continues to receive.

As May ushers in warmer weather and a season full of community events, we are beyond grateful to Team TIS for consistently showing up and dedicating their time to our mission. From shelters to special events, volunteers continue to make an incredible impact.
This month, board members and volunteers represented TIS at the Easton and St. Michaels Farmers Markets, helping spread awareness and share the TIS mission with our community. House-sitter volunteers continued supervising both shelters, allowing staff to focus on their work and enjoy needed time off. Volunteers also spent time stuffing envelopes, restocking the Period Pantry outside of Easton’s Promise, and helping keep our locations clean and welcoming.
We want to give a special shout-out to the men who help keep our Vine Street location in tip-top shape. Aubrey faithfully completes weekly cleanings of the building, often going above and beyond what is asked of him to support the development team and the work they do. Employees from Quaker Neck LLC. generously volunteer their time each week to mow, trim, and clean out garden beds, allowing our maintenance team to focus on other important tasks.
Your commitment helps create stability, support, and sustainability for our neighbors experiencing homelessness. Thank you for being an essential part of Team TIS and the life-changing work we do together.

If you are volunteering at our shelters, be on the lookout for TIS staff, who may ask if they can take your photo. We hope you’ll say, “Cheese!” Sharing your volunteer experience can help us recruit others who might be interested in donating their time in support of our mission. On that note, if you or someone you know is interested in learning more about TIS volunteer opportunities, please contact us at 410-690-3120 and ask for the Volunteer Coordinator!
Even Artificial Intelligence (AI) Thinks You Should Support TIS!
Did you know? We asked ChatGPT a simple question: “Should I support Talbot Interfaith Shelter?” And the answer was a resounding…YES!
Many of us use ChatGPT to ask questions, learn something new, or compare information quickly. So we decided to put TIS to the test. ChatGPT shared that supporting Talbot Interfaith Shelter is a strong, evidence-backed choice for those who care about homelessness, local impact, and organizational transparency.
In 2025, TIS earned the Platinum Seal of Transparency from GuideStar/Candid, reflecting our commitment to accountability and openness. We believe you deserve to know exactly how your support makes a difference, and we will always be honest about what your dollars do for our guests.
When you support TIS, you’re investing in more than temporary shelter. You’re helping provide case management, transitional housing, and long-term pathways to stability — with every dollar staying right here in our community. Now that’s something worth saying YES to!
