Volunteer

It does not take much to touch the life of a person in need. Each year, hundreds of generous neighbors come together to provide supervision, meals, and fellowship for our guests, as well as other volunteer opportunities. Join "Team TIS" today, and help change the lives of families and individuals right here in our community.

Give Your Time

We have been blessed with hundreds of volunteers with huge hearts. Many of our volunteers have been giving of their time and talents since TIS first started serving our neighbors in 2009!  There are several ways to donate your time to our neighbors in need.  We can’t do it without YOU!

Join or Start a Volunteer Team

For each of our shelters (Easton’s Promise and Evelyn’s Place), we aim to have 31 volunteer teams, with each team providing supervision and dinner one day per month.  You can sign up for a team, or add your name to our list of alternates in case we have a volunteer unable to make their shift.

Each volunteer team provides supervision for three shifts, Monday through Friday (it is preferable to have 2 volunteers present during each shift):

8:00 – 11:00 am
11:00 am – 2:00 pm
2:00 – 5:00 pm

What do supervisors do?  Supervisors are extremely important, as they allow our staff to leave the shelters as they need to in order to attend meetings, take guests to appointments, and more.  Supervisors mainly answer the phone, take donations, and make sure they know what to do in the very rare case of an emergency.

In addition, volunteers provide dinner for each of our houses every night.  These volunteers can be part of a team, or sign up as an alternate to provide meals if there is an open night.

To our incredible volunteers,

Thank you so very much for your patience as we navigated the challenges of the past year. Your support has meant the world to us, and while we haven't been able to see you in person, we have felt you standing beside us, and we know you have been cheering our guests on! Thank you also for keeping dinner on the table every single night during the crisis. You have given our guests something to look forward to each day and have shown them that their community cares about them!

We are very excited to let you know that we are welcoming our wonderful volunteers back into our facilities! We understand that there are many of you who are not ready to come back, but for those who feel comfortable, we look forward to seeing you again! There are a few things that we would like to update you on:

* We may be transitioning to a new volunteer database and scheduling system. To make the changeover as smooth as possible, we are asking that each one of our returning volunteers complete a new background check form. Once this new form is complete, we should not have to ask you to do another in the future (yay!), Please click on the button below to fill out the background check online, or to print one out to be sent in or dropped off.

* We have created several policies designed to protect the health and safety of all volunteers, staff, and guests. Make sure to familiarize yourself with them before agreeing to return. They can be accessed by clicking the button below!

* We have reviewed our volunteer schedule, and have made some changes: The 'house sitting' shifts will be from 8 am - 11 am, 11 am - 2 pm, and 2 pm - 5 pm. Staff will cover the dinner shift, as some guests are working late and need to be checked in. Dinner is still served at 5:30 pm.

* Many of you have inquired as to whether our staff and guests are vaccinated. We do require our staff to be vaccinated. However, while we strongly encourage guests to get their vaccine, a small amount of them have chosen not to at this time, for various health-related reasons. Health education is a significant component of our S4 Program, so we are taking every opportunity to teach our guests about vaccines and why they are beneficial. Many are responding to this approach, and we will continue to do what we do best - provide our guests with the tools they need to make smart choices and achieve Success!

*In addition, at this time, all volunteers are required to be vaccinated.
