October was a month of hard work, new beginnings, and community at its best. Five of our guests started new jobs, others moved into new homes, and Team TIS showed up in every way, from rallying around our Executive Director, Julie Lowe, and her family, to welcoming back a founding board member. As we head into National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Month, your generosity continues to turn hope into real stability for our neighbors. Thank you for standing with us!

Letter from the Board President
In this month’s letter, Board President Larry Neviaser shares a message of sympathy and gratitude as Team TIS surrounds Executive Director Julie Lowe and her family with support. He also reflects on National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Month, the growing need for shelter and housing across the Mid-Shore, and the ways you can help make a difference this November.
October was a month of hard work and big steps forward for our guests! Five guests started new jobs this month. Dion is now a manager at Hardee’s, and Shareef joined the team at Dollar General. We’re especially proud that Amy and Brittany both started new positions at the Tidewater Inn, one of our Keys to Success Business Partners. Another guest began working at Avenues Recovery.
Our guests are also building skills for the future in our current Getting Ahead class. Several have already landed job interviews, and others have secured essential benefits like SNAP that help them build stability as they work toward independence.
Housing progress continues as well! Berdadrian moved into one of our Transitional Apartments, and George celebrated a major milestone by securing his own permanent housing. Congratulations to all of our guests on these well-earned accomplishments!
None of this happens without you. To our donors, volunteers, and partners: your belief in our mission and investment in our neighbors’ lives makes all the difference. Your generosity provides more than shelter—it creates opportunity, removes barriers, and turns moments like these into reality. Every success we celebrate, we celebrate together.

WELCOME BACK PAMELA MCCLOUD TO OUR BOARD OF DIRECTORS!
Team TIS is thrilled to welcome Pamela McCloud back to our Board of Directors! Pamela served as TIS’s founding Board Vice President and has been part of the Eastern Shore community since 1982.
A New York City native, Pamela spent 52 years in international development, beginning as a Peace Corps teacher in 1968 and going on to lead USAID-funded programs in education, youth leadership, and women’s empowerment across the Middle East and Central Asia. Closer to home, she has volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, the St. Michaels Food Pantry, the Women and Girls Fund, and many other local organizations.
“We become our best selves when we recognize the humanity in others,” Pamela says. “But to make empathy effective, it must lead to action.” We’re grateful to have her back on Team TIS!
