FAQ: How can people in the community help?

We are fortunate to have support from every corner of our community.  Hundreds of volunteers help provide supervision, meals, and fellowship for the guests in our shelters each year.  Our volunteer structure includes 31 teams for each facility, one for each day of the month.  Teams are comprised of religious partners, local organizations, neighbors, or even groups of friends.  Each team is responsible for scheduling volunteers for the supervision shifts as well as providing dinner for the guests on their assigned days.

We also have volunteers who help with our events, property upkeep, and other functions. Besides the amazing work they do for our community, the hundreds of wonderful people who volunteer for TIS also allow us to keep our costs as low as possible.  We estimate that they provide as much as $1 million worth of time and talent each year.

In addition, we have hundreds of amazing donors whose monetary and in-kind donations enable us to help our neighbors in need.

We also have supporters who organize fundraisers, projects, and supply drives for us.  Some examples include:

  • Concerts and other musical events
  • Yoga events
  • Athletic events
  • Maintenance of our shelter properties
  • Food and supply drives
  • Hosting informational and fundraising events at their homes
