Easton non-profits team up to help families with childcare expenses

EASTON, Md. – Two Easton based non-profits have teamed up to help 31 families pay for childcare expenses.

An official with the Talbot Interfaith Shelter says they had about $8,500 left in their childcare scholarship fund when they learned families at Critchlow Adkins Children’s Centers were facing financial difficulties. They say state funding has remained the same during a time when countless families are struggling to pay for all day childcare expenses, as many schools are not completely in person. So the shelter decided to use that money and close the tuition gap affecting those families and sees it as a way to possibly keep families from falling into homelessness.

Jayme Dingler, with Talbot Interfaith Shelter, says, “If you don’t have somebody to watch your child and you can’t afford for someone to watch your child, how do you go to work to keep a roof over your family’s head and make sure your bills are paid and there’s food on the table?”

Dingler says this isn’t a permanent solution and the funding will only be available for about a month. However, Critchlow is looking to raise money to help families with future financial assistance needs.
