Guest news this month!

Thanks to wonderful TIS supporters, our guests had a very special Easter.  Dinner kits were donated for the families in our transitional housing program, and each of our children received a personalized Easter basket.  One of our supporters made “adult” Easter eggs for our parents with a little bit of money inside that they could spend on themselves.  Thank you for a memorable day!

One of the families in our transitional apartments welcomed a baby girl!

With assistance from our case managers, several of our guests have been enrolled in insurance coverage!

One of the mothers in our family shelter is studying for her GED!

A new group of guests recently began their journey through the “Getting Ahead in a Just Gettin’ By World” Program.  During this 13-week course, guests will learn about the root causes of poverty and homelessness, the ‘hidden rules’ of society that can keep people from progressing out of poverty, and the importance of budgeting.  They will work together to identify and maximize the local resources available to them.  Lastly, they will learn how to wean off of those services once they have created sustainable financial independence.

*This is the last round of the “Getting Ahead” Program that will be funded by our service partners at the Department of Social Services.  These classes are both extremely effective for our guests and extremely cost-effective at approximately $1500 per 13-week cycle.  If you are interested in helping to fund future cycles, please reach out to Julie at julielowe@talbotinterfaithshelter.org or 410-310-2316.
