October Letter from the Executive Director, Julie Lowe

Dear Friends of TIS,

As November’s chillier weather arrives, so does a moment of reflection and opportunities for action: Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Month. Across the country, communities are coming together to shine a light on the struggles faced by millions — and here at Talbot Interfaith Shelter, we see those struggles every day.

TIS’s S4 Program (Shelter, Stability, Support, Success) welcomes individuals and families who are navigating unimaginable challenges, and who desire to make their lives better. Some have lost jobs, homes, or loved ones. Others are escaping unsafe situations or simply trying to survive another cold night. Their stories are heartbreaking — but they also speak to our neighbors’ incredible resilience, courage, and hope.

This month, we invite you to stand with us. Awareness is the first step toward change. By learning, sharing, and engaging, we can break down stigma and build up support. Whether it’s volunteering your time, making a donation, or simply starting a conversation, your actions matter. Please keep your eyes on our November calendar, where you will see an opportunity to become a TIS Ambassador, to drop off some much-needed supplies at collection sites throughout the county, and to dine at some supporting restaurants that will donate a portion of their receipts to TIS.

Together, we can ensure that no one in our community has to sleep in a car, in a boat, or in the woods. Let’s make November a month of compassion, connection, and commitment.

With deepest gratitude,

Julie Lowe
