February Letter from the Executive Director, Julie Lowe

Dear Friends,

One of the best parts of my job is getting to see the incredible talents and generosity that exist within our shelter community.

Recently, one of our guests—who happens to be a very skilled painter—asked if he could help out by painting some of our shelter homes and transitional housing apartments. Since then, he’s been busy transforming room after room with fresh paint and thoughtful details. The results are beautiful, but what matters even more is how those spaces now feel: brighter, more welcoming, and full of dignity for the families and individuals who will live there next.

Moments like this remind me that the people we serve are so much more than their current circumstances. They bring skills, pride, and a real desire to give back when given the chance.

At the same time, the need for shelter continues to rise. As the cost of living goes up—especially housing, utilities, and everyday essentials—we’re seeing more individuals and families who never imagined they’d need help walking through our doors. The pressure is real, and it’s growing.

That’s why I’m especially excited about our upcoming Lip Sync Battle on April 18, 2026 at the Talbot County Community Center. This event is my very favorite because it’s pure fun with a powerful purpose. It’s a night of laughter, friendly competition, and community spirit—all while raising vital funds to support our shelter and programs.

Each ticket, sponsorship, and donation helps us keep our homes safe, welcoming, and ready for the next person who needs them. Just like a fresh coat of paint can change a room, your support helps change lives.

Thank you for being part of this community and for standing with us as we meet a growing need with compassion and hope. I hope you’ll join us on April 18 for a night you won’t want to miss.

With gratitude,

Julie Lowe
