
Position Summary
Talbot Interfaith Shelter (TIS) is seeking a creative, organized, and mission-driven Development and Marketing Assistant to join our team. This position supports the Director of Development and Marketing in advancing the organization’s fundraising, communications, marketing, and community engagement efforts. The ideal candidate is a strong writer, highly organized, tech-savvy, and passionate about helping individuals and families experiencing homelessness.
The Development and Marketing Assistant will play an integral role in promoting the TIS mission, cultivating donor relationships, coordinating fundraising activities, managing social media, and increasing community awareness through strategic marketing and communications.
Essential Responsibilities
Marketing & Communications
- Assist in implementing TIS’s annual marketing and communications plan.
- Create compelling content for newsletters, annual reports, appeal letters, brochures, flyers, press releases, email campaigns, and other marketing materials.
- Maintain and update the TIS website with current news, events, success stories, and organizational information.
- Develop branded marketing materials using Canva or similar design platforms.
- Assist with coordinating print radio, television, and digital advertising campaigns.
- Assist with photography and videography at programs and events.
- Produce short videos highlighting guests, volunteers, donors, staff, and community impact.
- Monitor marketing analytics and recommend strategies to improve engagement and visibility.
- Maintain brand consistency across all communications.
Social Media Management
- Create engaging content for Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, and other platforms.
- Write captions that inspire community engagement and support fundraising efforts.
- Schedule posts and monitor comments and messages.
- Track engagement metrics.
- Cover organizational events by capturing photos, videos, and live updates.
Development & Fundraising
- Assist in researching grant opportunities and preparing grant applications and reports.
- Maintain a comprehensive grant calendar, tracking deadlines, reporting requirements, and submission schedules.
- Assist with donor stewardship, including acknowledgment letters, recognition, and appreciation activities.
- Research prospective donors, foundations, corporations, and sponsorship opportunities.
- Assist with annual fundraising campaigns, direct mail appeals, online giving campaigns, and donor communications.
- Support donor cultivation and stewardship events.
- Coordinate sponsorship outreach and maintain sponsor records.
- Assist with planning and executing fundraising events, including volunteer coordination, logistics, registration, sponsorship fulfillment, and event promotion.
- Prepare fundraising reports and donor impact materials.
Database Management
- Maintain accurate donor and prospect records in the donor management database.
- Enter gifts, pledges, sponsorships, and donor information in a timely manner.
- Generate donor, campaign, and fundraising reports.
- Assist with donor segmentation for appeals and marketing campaigns.
- Ensure data integrity through regular audits and updates.
Community Relations
- Represent Talbot Interfaith Shelter at community events, networking opportunities, and outreach activities.
- Assist in building relationships with local businesses, civic organizations, media outlets, volunteers, and community partners.
- Assist in coordinating public speaking engagements and presentations.
- Help recruit volunteers and promote community involvement.
Administrative Support
- Assist with board and Development Committee meeting materials.
- Organize physical and digital marketing files.
- Coordinate large mailings and supervise volunteers assisting with mail preparation.
- Maintain marketing inventory, promotional materials, and event supplies.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Development and Marketing.
Qualifications
Required
Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, nonprofit management, business, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace.
- Experience with social media platforms and content creation.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
Preferred
- Experience working in nonprofit fundraising or communications.
- Grant writing or grant research experience.
- Experience with donor database software (DonorPerfect preferred).
- Experience with Canva or similar graphic design software.
- Experience using email marketing platforms such as Constant Contact or Mailchimp.
- Photography and video editing experience.
- Event planning experience.
