August Letter from the Executive Director, Julie Lowe

Dear Friends of TIS,

As summer ends, our mission continues…

Now that summer has come to a close for our TIS Kids, we’re ready to refocus on what matters most: education, opportunity, and support. Not just for the families with children that we serve at Easton’s Promise, but also the singles at Evelyn’s Place, and families and individuals we support in our Transitional Housing Program.

Here’s something you may not have heard: the Maryland Child Care Scholarship Program is currently on hold. This vital program was designed to help low-income working parents afford consistent, quality child care. Families already enrolled can continue receiving assistance, but new applicants are now placed on an indefinite waitlist.

At TIS, we’ve been proactive. For more than five years, we’ve maintained a Child Care Gap Fund—a temporary safety net that helps parents during that crucial period when they’re job hunting or waiting on their first paychecks to qualify for the subsidy. But now, with the state program frozen, more families are relying on us—and our limited resources are being stretched thin.

We have children in our care who need full-day child care, and others who rely on us for after-school programs—support their parents depend on so they can work, build stability, and grow.

So once again, I’m reaching out with a heartfelt request for your continued and increased support. While our Development Team is actively pursuing grant funding, those decisions take time—and the need is right now.

If you’ve ever been a parent searching for child care you can trust, you understand just how important this is.

Your generosity helps keep our children safe, supported, and thriving—while giving their parents the chance to build a better future.

With an abundance of gratitude for your support,

Julie Lowe
