
Talbot Interfaith Shelter (TIS) is dedicated to ending homelessness on Maryland’s Mid-Shore by providing Shelter, Stability, Support, and a path to Success for families and individuals in need.
The Director of Operations will oversee the on-site operations of the Talbot Interfaith Shelter, a private nonprofit homeless shelter and transitional housing program in Easton, MD. The position is a salaried full-time, year-round position. The position is overseen by the Executive Director. This position is 100% on-site work.
Duties:
- Shelter Operations
o Ensure the shelter is operating safely for guests, volunteers, and staff.
o Commitment to the mission of the Talbot Interfaith Shelter and its interfaith nature.
o Work with guests, employees, and volunteers to ensure compliance with all TIS policies and house rules.
o Participate in training, scheduling and supervision of paid staff and volunteers.
o Oversee Case Managers and ensure their ongoing education.
o Prepare bi-weekly payroll reports for entire staff.
o Act as Case Manager for family shelter guests and assist their transition to Transitional Housing or their own apartment.
o Serve as point of contact for persons seeking shelter. Perform background checks, conduct interviews, and be present on site for admission of each new guest.
o Work with guests to develop action plans to resolve homelessness.
o Assist guests with applications for assistance.
o Coordinate needs of guests/program participants, linking them to resources. This includes physical needs as well as counseling/case management, mental health support.
o Provide for and/or arrange for training opportunities to assist guests with budgeting, GED, job training, parenting and other educational programming.
o Manage shelter phone and the schedule of Case Managers manning the phone 24/7 for people in crisis. Keep a tally of people requesting shelter.
o Ensure that guests, volunteers, visitors and staff are treated with dignity and respect.
o Maintain clear and concise records and statistics of the homeless population requesting assistance from TIS, both those we take in and those we do not.
o Maintain license for HMIS (Homelessness Management Information System), keep information up to date, entering all benchmarks for each guest.
o Ensure that supplies needed to run the shelter program are kept at specified inventory.
o Prepare shelter reports and present at full Board meetings. - Policy Review
o Contribute to the development and evaluation of operational policies and recommend to the Board of Directors suggested policy changes/additions. - Qualifications
o Understanding of issues of homelessness in Talbot County, the local services available and how to
navigate the paths to assistance.
o Commitment to perform as a team player.

o Physical ability to ascend and descend stairs; lift 40#.
o Proficiency in Excel and Word. - Education / Experience
o Masters in Social Work
o Experience in Case Management of people in poverty, who have had traumatic experiences.
o Experience working with people who have mental health / co-occurring diagnoses.
